Build a sustainable future with The Wooden Lab

Did you know that the built environment is responsible for almost 40% of our energy consumption and a third of our CO₂ emissions? That can no longer be done; time is running out to achieve the climate targets for 2050 (Paris Proof).

A large part of the current emissions is due to the use of concrete and steel in constructions. In recent years, building with wood has been optimized to such an extent that many more possibilities have arisen. If R&D laboratories switch to biobased building with wood on a large scale, this will save 57,600,000 kg of CO₂.

We are proud to present a new innovative solution: The Wooden Lab. Suitable for 80% of the laboratories in the Netherlands and of course Paris Proof!

This new concept shows that biobased building with wood is also possible for laboratories. Together with engineering firm Lüning and architectural firm Broekbakema, we have developed a sustainable and future-proof solution that meets the strict requirements of R&D environments.

What makes Het Houten Lab unique?

The Wooden Lab offers a combination of CO₂ reduction, health and efficiency:

Sustainability impact: building with wood saves half of the CO₂ emissions during construction. This ensures a Paris Proof laboratory that contributes to the ESG objectives.

Healthier working environment: wood contributes to a biophilic working environment with less stress, more well-being and higher productivity.

Faster construction time: thanks to prefabrication and a modular design, shell elements can be installed faster and more efficiently.

Circular construction: modular wooden elements are easy to dismantle and reuse and contribute to a circular economy. During inspiring knowledge sessions, we worked with relations and experts on this groundbreaking concept. Our research shows that 80% of all laboratories in the Netherlands can be built with wood, while meeting the strict requirements for load-bearing capacity, vibration sensitivity and cleanability.

Why choose The Wooden Lab?

The transition to biobased construction is essential to not only achieve sustainability goals as a sector, but also to create healthy and inspiring work environments that are realized faster and more efficiently than traditional laboratories.
